What is Somatic Experience?

Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a form of therapy that focuses on the connection between the mind and body, with the goal of resolving and healing symptoms of trauma, stress, and other emotional or physical imbalances. Developed by Dr. Peter Levine, a therapist and researcher in the field of trauma, SE aims to help individuals release the trapped energy and tension that can result from overwhelming experiences or events.

The SE approach emphasizes the importance of the body's natural ability to self-regulate and heal from traumatic events. It uses a combination of talk therapy, physical techniques, and mindfulness exercises to help individuals become more aware of their physical sensations and emotions, and to work through any blocks or imbalances that may be causing distress.

Somatic Experiencing therapy typically involves working with a trained SE practitioner in a safe and supportive environment. Sessions may involve guided meditation, breathing exercises, gentle physical movements, and other techniques designed to help individuals release tension and access their body's natural healing resources. The goal of SE therapy is to help individuals develop a greater sense of resilience and empowerment, and to restore their ability to live a full and meaningful life.

We have experience with SE as the method is very similar to what Carl Jung called Active Imagination.
Depending on the situation we use tools like Somatic Experiencing in our sessions.
