Timeline Carl Jung’s life

1875 - Carl Gustav Jung is born on July 26th in Kesswil, Switzerland.

1895 - Jung begins studying medicine at the University of Basel.

1900 - Jung receives his medical degree and begins working as an assistant at the Burghölzli psychiatric hospital in Zurich.

1902 - Jung begins corresponding with Sigmund Freud and they eventually meet in Vienna.

1907 - Jung becomes the first president of the International Psychoanalytic Association.

1912 - Jung's break with Freud becomes complete and he develops his own theories of the unconscious and individuation.

1913 - Jung begins experiencing vivid dreams and visions, which he records in his Red Book.

1916 - Jung begins teaching at the University of Zurich and establishes the psychological concepts of introversion and extroversion.

1921 - Jung publishes Psychological Types, which outlines his theory of personality types.

1933 - Jung's ideas become controversial in Nazi Germany and he is forced to resign from his position as president of the International General Medical Society for Psychotherapy.

1944 - Jung suffers a heart attack and begins a period of physical decline.

1951 - Jung publishes Aion, in which he explores the archetypal symbolism of Christianity.

1961 - Carl Jung dies on June 6th in Küsnacht, Switzerland, at the age of 85.
