Superiority vs Inferiority

Wherever an inferiority complex exists, there is a good reason for it

- Carl Jung

Found this quote of Jung while looking into his work on the inferiority complex. I was quite surprised by it in the beginning, but eventually understood what he meant.

Lately I am observing the inferiority complex in myself, and how it relates to feelings of superiority on the other hand. It’s like two sides of the same coin, with one being present and the other residing in the unconscious. I notice how the coin can flip, dependent on the outer circumstances and the people with whom I relate. I discovered that whenever I feel small, worthless or insignificant, that I project my own greatness onto others. And whenever I feel superior, better or greater, I project my own vulnerability or 'weaker' parts onto others.

So for me it is just another form of shadow work. Becoming aware that it is all in me, and inviting myself to embrace all parts by taking back the projections on others. We need our greatness to fulfill our potential, and we need our vulnerability and 'smallness' in order to relate to others and ourselves with compassion, understanding and humility. Whether you feel inferior or superior, something is asking for your attention.

If you are interested in integrating these two sides of yourself and experience more inner balance, you are welcome to take a look inside during a free online session. The other part of yourself will be grateful.
